Wang Ching Wai's Message To The Chinese Nation

Wang Ching-wel,, President of the Executive Yuan, has issued the following message to the Chinese Nation on the occasion

of the twenty-third anniversary of the Republic:

This National Day being set apart for observance as the an- niversary of the birth of our Re- public, let us recali with gratitude and pride the glory of the past, and pray with all sincerity for the brightness of the future, but t

the same time pledge ourselves to work strenuously and ceaselessly to overcome the difficultles now confronting us.

This is the 23rd Anniversary of the establishment of our Republic, and four years have passed since the development of the national crisis. In regard to the manner of coping with that crisis, some of our compatriots entertain various opinions which, practical- ly speaking, offer only two alter- natives. Some think it advisable to endure our trials with patience and work to consolidate the nation's vitality, taking into con- sideration the fact that OUT strength is so much inferior to That of other nations. This means to put up with any insult and suffering at a time when we

Others, however, advocate the policy of fighting even at the sacrlice of our lives, deeming it better to let the nation be broken like jade than be preserved intact like tile.

To my mind both these views are Indispensable yet not abso- tutely effective, or to put it another way, although neither may be effective, yet both are in- dispensable.

MYSTERY SHIP

"Considerable interest has been aroused in local shipping circles main by the reference to the vessel mayDoggersbank which has been ply-

It was reported that these mys- teribus voyages had occurred so often that shipping men were ex- pressing curiosity as to the ex- planation of a most unusual state of affairs. The cost of running such `a small steamer cannot be so great the whole of this as to absorb amount, and if the facts as com- mamicated to us are correct the Doggersbank is making a regular proat cruising between this coun-

This is a good foundation for the rejuvent- tion of the nation. Nevertheless, our Leader was not satisfied with the mere preservation of our try and Java. existent civilization, and eh- couraged us to seek to acquire the modern civilization of the world. In regard to this latter, he did not mean we should take a "going with the "stream" palley, but to forge ahead of others. We must note that consolida- tion and sacrifice are not con- tradictory to each other, but there is a close connection be- tween them. In other words, sacrifice cannot be carried out effectively without consolidation. The object of consolidation is to enable the strength of sacrifice to be greater and stronger.
