TRAINING GALLOPS

PLENTY OF FAST WORK AT

THE COURSE

(BY MORNING" DEW")

Yesterday's training gallops at the course was full of interest and some very fast work was seen.

Danz

For China ponies, the fastest mile was provided by King's Justice who returned 2.05.2, with a last quarter of 29.4. Bay covered the same distance in 2.00 with a last quarter of 30.3 and Trentbridge took 2.06.2 for a similar trip finishing in 30.2 secs. Mutiny Bay, Mr. Dunbar's Australian pony which will be a starter this Saturday, covered an impressive mile, taking 2.00.4 fur the journey. He ran beautifully all the way and finished full of running. Oak Bay, another of the Dunbar candidates stepped very nicely over six furlongs, accompanied by Macaroni.

"

Sancy Face (Australian) went over a slow mile but finished Strongly.

King's Fansy wonå over a mile in 214 and finished the last.... quarter in 29. The pony stands a good chance of winning on Saturday, King's Warden $09, moved very well"

Soldier of China's mile in 3.11.4 was very good and bida well for the pony's chance this week end. Other good gallops were those by The Bodega and Chesterfield who are both opposed to Bargomaster this Saturday in a race over a mile and a quarter.

The following 'timen were clocked yesterday:-----

I've seen Port Vale this season and taken an eyeful of Manches- ter United. They meet at Hanley. It memory, serves me, the United have a good record at the Old Re- creation Ground. They will have to step lively to keep it up.

The Vale show up strongly in intelligent team work via "fast and direct methods. Tommy Nolan bas yet to be seen at his best but he is tuning up. Tommy and the wing men, Friar and Morton,

should prove a hot handful for Jack Hacking and his backs."

Now that George Mutch, the stockily-built inside-forward from Arbroath, has entered the picture as a marksman, the United are more hopeful. Mutch has ginger as well as knack. He is helping Jack Ball to the passes the centre forward likes. On the wings the Vale are strong by comparison. They should win.
