STUDYING THE STRATOSPHERE

Preliminary Plans Prepared

Leningrad, Aug. 10.A group of experts has drawn up the prelimin- ary plan of study of the stratos- phere in 1934-35.

A new stratospheric balloon "OSAKH-2," now under construc- tion, is designed to reach the height of 20-25 Kilometers." The balloon will be of a considerably larger capacity than that of the "OSAKK- 1." A series of designs for the construction of the balloon, its sus- rensions. and the gondola have. been worked out. A hermetically closed gondola, with a valve open- ine effecting external repairs, oh- servationis, experiments, and in case of necessity for a parachute des- cent, etc., has been chosen as the most suitable for the purpose.

A number of probe balloons of different types will be prepared for observations of the stratosphere before the ascents of the stratos- pheric balloons, with a view to de termining the most favourable time for the start.-Tass Mail.
