SWEDISH ELECTIONS

(Special to the "Hong Kong Dally

Press" (Copyright.)], ́ ̧

Stockholm, Sept. 17. The elections to the "Land-. sting" or provincial representa- tions which were held on Sunday in 182 out of a total of 189 elec-. tlon districts, resulted in appre- clable gaps for the Peasant League and the Social Democrats while the Conservative party suffered a setback. According to the provi- sional returns, the Peasant League secured a total of 217 seats, gain- ing thirty, while the Social De- mocrats increased their number of seats from 469 to 603. The Conservatives fell off from 323 seats to 275, while the newly founded Peoples Party likewise receded from 138 seats to 117.

The result of the elections tends to strengthen the Clovernment's position since it has been relying chiefly in the support of the Peasant League and the

Bocialists. Transocent Kuo Min.
