Stocks: Temporary resistance was shown but, lacking important constructive news, we would con- tue a cautious attitude.

Wheat:-The market

opened lower on Commission House selling. The subsequent rally was the re- sult of buying by a broker who usually acts for mill Interests Otherwise, there was no demand of any consequence.

Bonds: Government bonds eased of fractionally. High-grade Issues were off a point on selling of odd lots, blocks not being offered down. Bidding was thin. Second-grade issues ruled weak.

Ei

Wheat:-There was further long iquidation by tired holders sales: 25.341 000 Thursday's bushels.

55

Grains: The situation is funda- mentally unchanged and accumu lation on the scale down appears to be the preferable course, Bust ness done: 10,846,000 bushels.

Cotton: The cessation of Iquidation of distant months, a less urgent Trade demand for near shipments and moderate hedging were the features of the market to-day. A forecast of the weather indicated frost in Western Okla- homa and in the North-Western parts of Texas. The technical 14 st position of the market is strong

and we recommend purchases.

Rubber: The market was very steady, due to buying by Commis- ston Houses and closed steady.

Several Yearlings

Sent To The Sales

London, August 25.

to

а

In addition to breeding for, as it were, home consumption Lord Glanely also sends a number of yearlings to the Doncaster Year- ling Sales each year, and he is sending up a number for sale next month. Not unnaturally there is an idea that such owner-breeders only send for sale those yearlings that they do not want, but that is not the case. It would obvious- ly be a bad policy to send to the Doncaster Bales yearlings by Lord Glanely's" own Singapore, sire, if they were of no value, for the result would only be to de- preciate the value of the sire. Lord Glanely is sending to this year's sales several Singapores of con- siderable promise more than one of whom I would have expected him to have kept to be sent Captain Hogg to be trained. Others from this stud for Doncaster are a nice-looking Bosworth and small but racing-like Manna.

The first of Singapore's stock race are now yearlings, and they will be in training in the au- tunan and will run next year."

the Their first appearance on "race-course will be awaited by breeders with great interest. Singapore was a difficult horse to train until he was three-year-old. He then won at Sandown Park, went on to win at Goodwood," and finished the season by winning the St. Leger with ease. He was a very unlucky oser of the Goa Cup at Ascot when tic was just beaten by Trimdo. Later in the same sea- son he won the Doncaster Cup with great ease. He now looks like a great eire, for he is a hand- some and dominant horse, getting so far, it would seem, rather more fllles than colts. He is stamping his stock and that is almost in- variably the sign of a good sirë..

Geneva, Sept. 14. The members of the Bureau of Arms Conference have received letter from their President, Mr. Arthur Henderson, stating that between September 9 and 12 ht had conducted several conversa- the tions in Geneva to ascertain prospects of recommencing the work of the conference. The an- swers had convinced him that a session of the Bureau of the Con- ference could only be convened with the prospects of success after the question of the entry of Soviet Russia into the League of Nations is disposed of, and the efforts. of the conclusion of a mutual, and among Eastern European bact countries are crowned with suc

cess.

It is assumed here that no ses- sion of the bureau artis confer- ence will take place before Novem- ber.
