Captain McGrigor has had a distinguished career, and was the first of his term to attain the rank of captain, to which he was pro- moted on December 31, 1933, while commanding the Versatile and a division of the 5th Flotilla. Home Fleet

He entered Osborne in January. 1906, and passed out first of his term both from Dartmouth and the training cruiser Cornwall. In passing for lieutenant in 1913-14 he took firsts in all subjects and won the Beaufort and Wharton Testimonial. During the War he was sub-lieutenant and lleutenant of the destroyer Foxhound and the battleship Malaya, and after spe- cializing in torpedoes was Lieuten- ant (T) in the battleship Con- queror and the Highayer. East Indles dagship. He took the staff course in 1923-24 and has since beer on staff duties in the 1st and 5th Flotillas, the Tactical School at Portsmouth, and the Nelson Home Fleet flagship. Since his promotion to captain he has at tended the senior officers' courses at the Army School, Sheerness,' and at Portsmouth,

RETURN OF THE REVENGE HMS. Revenge, Captain ·LE Holland, which was recommission- ed at Portsmouth on July 25 as an independent command for further service in the First Battle Squa- dron, Mediterranean Fleet, is ex- pected to leave to-day for ber station. She will not be in time to take part in the first half of the second summer cruise, which begins on August 29, but will re- main at Gibraltar from August 24 to September 28, arriving at Malta ön October 10.

GUNBOATS IN CHINA

It is notified that HMS. Robin was commissioned at Hong-kong on July 23 for service in the West River Flotilla. This new gunboat replaces the Moorhen, which had been in service since 1901, and was beyond economical repair. With the arrival of the Robin the West River Flotilla commanded by Captain W. G. Benn in E.M.S. Tarantula, includes two post-War gunboats. the other being the Seamew. The Cicala, Moth and Tarantula belong to the "insect" class built in 1915-16 for service on the rivers. In Mesopotamia in support of the military operations. APPOINTMENTS
