A SHIP FOR CHINA

The Hai-Yuan, launched Borned Maru, Japanese str. 4.281 | Messrs. Swan Hunter and Wigham tons. Capt. E. Sanada, from Richardson, Limited, at Walker Sakito, buoy No. A2-0.8.K. on Friday, is the ninth vessel launched on the River Tyne this year, as compared with one small vessel in the first half of last year. The. Hal-Yuan is one of two passenger and cargo vessels of 3,200 tons deadweight ordered from Swan Hunter's by the Chinese Government Purchasing Commission for the China Mer- chant's Steam Navigation Com- pany for China coast trade, Two similar vessels are being built on the Clyde. The vessel was chris- tened by Mme, Quo, wife of 'the Chinese Minister in London, who was also present. Speaking after the launch, the Chinese Minister said the vessel was the first of four building on the Tyne and Clyde, which would form the nucleus of the new Chinese mer- cantile marine. They could have bought secondhand vessels for the proverbial song, but considered it and business to economy str.,
