Picks Up Another (Anchor

• In weighing anchor in the River Mersey recently, prior to landing her passengers alongside of the Prince's landing-stage, the Cana- dian Pacific liner Duchess of Rich- mond, brought up from the bottom a second anchor "which she landed

at Gladstone dock. The anchor

had identification marks on it, and it is believed that it' originally be- longed to one of the large White | Star liners. Although it must have been at the bottom for a long time the anchor is in very good con- dition.

Salvage Awards to as. Memnon

The steamer 3.8. Memnon, owned by the China Mutual Navigation Co. of Liverpool. recently was awarded £2,400 in the British Ad- miralty Court for salvage services rendered to the steamer Uganda. owned by Messrs. Maclay & Mac- Intyre, Ltd., Glasgow. The master of the ss. Memnon was awarded £300, the owners £1,200, and the crew £900.

The ss. Memnon while on the voyage from the Far East to Hani- burg, etc., answered distress calls from the steamer Uganda, from "ON INDIA: south of Almeria, which was in danger of drifting on the rocky Islands of the African coast." She had broken her tall shaft and lost her propeller. The s.s. Memnon picked her up and towed her 115 miles to safety off Gibraltar. Dur- ing the tow the lines parted sever- al times.

The 3.5. Memnon is due In Shanghai again shortly. She sall- ed from Tsingtao last Friday and arrives in Shanghai on Sunday next, August 12. From Shanghai" ahe will continue her way to Euro-' pean ports via Buez and Far East- ern parts. She is a cargo and pasenger steamer. "Messrs. Butter feld and Swire are the agents of the China Mutual Navigation Co. out in the Far East.
