The lowering of Loch Largan, in Inverness-shire, by the progress of the Lochaber Power Scheme, has brought to light some of the most interesting relics of prehistoric Scotland ever discovered in the country. When excavations were begun a+ SANTHIA " short time ago a stone and lime

"TALMA bullding was laid bare, and soon

it was exposed to the foundations, when traces of another "far more ancient dwelling were found un- derneath, Wattle caked hard, with the hay and branches which bound it together all burnt away, and beams charred with fire, sug- gested that the original building had suffered, probably in war, at the hands of an enemy from which its safe place on top of a rock in an island had not saved it.

The dug-out canoes range from gest is declared by an expert to be 14 ft. to 38 ft. in length. The lar- the most perfect ever found in Scotland. It shows traces of
