Silver:-The market is quiet, but steady... In view of the statement by Mr. Morgenthauon the pro- posed thorough enforcement of the Silver Act, we believe that prices will slowly work higher.
Rubber-Prices are easier on lack of outside interest. Traders are uncertain pending the settle- ment of the labour troubles in the tyre industry.
Silver: Brokers, credited with operating for the Government, had buying orders for July at 45.40. Offers were light and only a few sales were put through on that basis. According to the Silver Purchase "Act. speculative profits will be taxed fifty per cent on transters of interest made on and following the statement by Mr. after May 15th.

As usual, the afternoon session was quiet.
Sterling
Sterling was done to small extent at 1/5 for cash. For a part of the afternoon there were sellers for the second half of July at 1/5 13/32 and buyers for the second week of July but to- wards closing time, reacting to a drop of about two points in the Gold Bar rate in Shanghai, buy- ers did not appear, so keen. The selling rate at the close was 1/54 for June, buyers at 1/5 13/32.
