HONG KONG DAILY PRESS, THURSDAY, JUNE 21, 1934.

NEW YORK STOCK AND COMMODITY QUOTATIONS

AMERICAN ORIENTAL FINANCE CORPORATION AND S. E. LEVY & CO.

New York, June 19. The American Oriental Finance Corporation report through their New York agents, Messrs. E, A Pierce & Co., states:

Stocks: The expected increase in outside buying failed to materi- alize and as a result, traders were disposed to lighten their long positions. We think that this ex- plains the irregular weakness of the market, but we do not think that it necessarily suggests any measurable extension of the re-

action.

Wheat:-Conditions are nervous and the local market requires new incentive and an increased volume of buying. There have been fur- ther beneficial rains in Canada and

in the North-West.

Cotton: The market suddenly "became active near the close, with a considerable increase in outside buying. due to confirmation of the report that the Government would purchase cotton and cotton-goods for relief purposes. Crop reporta are again becoming distinctly un- favourable.

Silver: Silver intures were firm in sympathy with the advance in the London market and the higher parity now prevalling. Trading was principally in July cptions.

The President signs the Stiver Bill this evening.

New York, June 19." Messrs. S. E. Levy & Company's report, through their New York agents, Messrs. White, Weld & Co., .states:-

MESSRS, ROZA BROS. REPORT

was drm

The tone in the Silver market In London

yesterday, prices were 1/8 up for both Ready and Forward deliveries at 19 13/16 and 193. China supported the market and some speculative sup- port was also given. The tone was firm after prices were axed due to [ the absence of sellers and likely buyers at quotations. In New York

higher the price was

at 15.35. Rumours of continued American Government support were current in the market.

Stocks: With Congress now ad- journed, the President is going away and the Government is com- mitted to a spending programme to offset the low level of Summer businesa We see little to influence the market broadly in either direc- tion, unless unusual developments occur abroad. However, we anti- cipate a continuation of good trading rute. ing on the market for the time being.

Bonds:-High-grades are slightly higher. Second-grades continue to follow stocks.

Cotton: The market was streng on the announcement made by Senator Smith that money is now vailable for the purpose of pur- chasing clothing for the needy, saying that he hoped a definite programme will be worked out to- day regarding the distributing of supplies. This statement caused considerable local and speculative buying..

Silver: The inarket was firm on renewed buying by the Treasury Department.

Rubber:The market was ner- vous at the close. After a slight rally, the markes eased on selling

by Commission houses.

Wheat:-The market was ner- vous and was acting as if a new

incentive is needed to advance

prices.

Corn: Prices advanced sluggish- ly on further reports of chinch bugi damage.
