Capture of Kwan Mun Ling

Canton, June 4.
A comprehensive review of the anti-Communist campaign in Sou- thern Kiangal "and "the suppression of banditry in Kwangtung WAJ made by Lieut.-General Chen Cheung Po, Pacification Commis- stoner of Southern Kwangtung, at the joint weekly memorial service at the Chungshän Memorial Hall this morning.
Characterizing the capture, of Kwan Mun "Ling in Southern Kiangat as a great military achieve- ment, General Chen stated that Over 2,000 Reds were disarmed in that battle together with heavy, casualties on their side. He gave full credit for the co-operation" of the air force which bombed the Communist forts and troop con- centrations.

"Before the troops make "further advance," General Chen said, "it is necessary to establish coramuni- cations by highways and telegraph to the rear. The farmers in the recovered' area are now engaged in sowing seeds, and fighting would disturb their farming.
"The Communists hiding in the northern outskirts of Kwanmun- ling are swept clean by the eighth division of the 1st group surmy and the 44th Kwangsi division. Hence the surrounding "district is peaceful."
Banditry in Kwangtung is being auppressed, General Chen continu- ed. It is difficult for the govern- ment troops to round up the Reds in the mountainous" area which has many exits of escape. Particularly gratifying is the evidence provided by the Agures
of the greater activity of British manufacturers.
Of the total increase of nearly £30,000,000 in imports, nesřly £20,000,000 represented raw materials for manufacture here.
Of the increase of nearly £8,700,000 in exports, over £8,000,000 represented manufactured articles.
In the first quarter of the year, compared with the corre- sponding period last year, British imports from Empire coun tries increased by £10,245.000, while exports to Empire countries increased by £2.819.125.
