Before proceeding with the bust ness of this meeting. I wish to place on record our deep regret at the passing away of the late Mr. Chau Yue-tong. to us

Although, the accounts cover a 1933 to period from January 1. February 13, 1934, you are all aware that they represent only Ave months of actual trading, as "business we did not commence

until September last year. How- ever, you will see that for this short period, and in spite of the clrcminstances mentioned, our pro- ft is $14.299.95, from which we have deducted the loss of $9,659.83 brought forward from last year, leaving

$4,640.12 balance of which your Directors recommend should be carried forward to a new account.

Your Directors regret being un- able to recommend the payment of any dividend though I think you will agree with me that the result so far attained is not un- satisfactory, taking into considera tion. the severe, trade depression through which the Colony is pass ing. We are confident that with the return of better times, our fize store. situated in the very heart of the shopping centre, will not fail to get its full share of the increased business.

In the meantime, your Directors have spared no efforts to curtail working expenses to an absolute mininum, consistent with
