Silver sales, were made in Lon- don yesterday again for account of the Continent. The market was given a steady tone due to specu- lative purchases, and continued Armish after prices were fixed as the result of American inquiry at slightly over the rate. Prices were 19 for both deliveries, belag 3/16 cown. In New York the Spot rate was 44 with a firm tone, there was more Spot buying in New York yesterday.
New York on London opened at 5.11 and closed at 5.107. the tone being dull.
Market
Strong. A fair business was re- ported to have been done. The robustness was not fully main- tained.
Sterling
Market rates at the opening were higher to those obtaining at clos- ing time yesterday. For May de- livery there were scilers at 1/5 3/10 and rather doubtful buyers at 1/54. June business was done shortly after at 1/5 5/16 and was maintained as the buying rate, sellers offering a little less, but subsequently business was done at 1/5 9/32 for June, 1/5 June, 1/5 9/32 July, 1/54 second half June and 1/5) June. At the lunch hour there were denite sellers at 1/5 3/16 for near, 1/5 7/32 June, 175k July and possibly second hal June, buyers at 1/32 higher.
U.S. Dollars Opening sellers at 364, buyers at 363 but business was done at 36 for May, 38" 11/16 for the same delivery as also 36 srid 381 June. The market closed with sellers at 38.9/16 for May and 364 June and likely bayers at 36 11/16 May and possibly also for Junë,
