MANCHUKUO NOT RECOGNISED BY CHINESE FEDERATION

"We are now in preparation for the World Olymple Games to be staged in Berlin in 1936, when we propose to send several entrants for the various branches of sports," said Dr. C. T. Wang, Chairman of the Chinese National Amateur Athletic Federation, in an interview to Press Reporters yesterday, soon after arriving in the Colony at the head of over 100 of China's athletes for the Manila Olymple Games, on board the 3.3. Presdent McKinley.

Dr. Wang said the Chinese Government were at present paying much attention to athletics and were providing the necessary means by building playgrounds in the various pro- vinces of Central China, where sport has been much in the back-ground.

The Provinces of Hupeh, Hunan, Honan, Shens! and Kwangsi were all being provided with playgrounds; while physical training was now an essential part of everyday" study,

Bright Prospects For Tennis Honours

It is hoped that these necessi ties will result in a vast improve- ment in the country's athletic world and will see China in a leading position in some years to come." said Dr. Wang..

Dr. Wang said he did not wish to say much about the question of Manchukuo's entry in the Games. As far as the Federation were.con- cerned they knew of rio such state as Manchukuo and as a result were not ready to recognise auch as a separate body.

Dr. Wäng said that the last. minute withdrawals from the delegation had handicapped them to a certain extent, but he hoped that the substitutes would do as well

Fine Imperial Airways, Effort

The Imperial Airways east-bound 'plane Athena recently made a fine effort. The mall was late in arriving at Karachi from England, not reaching there until the 20th inst., at 1.20 pan.

י

The Athena left Karachi the sane afternoon at 2.55 p.m., called at Jodphur, and flew on to Delh! that night making the first night landing at that aerodrome.

On the Saturday morning the Athena left Delhi at 3.30 a.m. and regained schedule by landing at Mingaladon aerodrome, Rangoon, the same night--another night landing. In the absence of proper night landing facilities at Minga- ladon, the pilot used his wing tip flares. The aerodrome officer laid his flares on the landing ground' to make a flare path, and the pilot of the Athena (Capt. Eccles- fold) made a perfect landing,

When the Athens left Rangoon the next morning for Singapore, she was flying to her ordinary timing.

FITTING FINALE TO FOOTBALL

EXCELLENT GAME ON CLUB

Association Beat Chinese

Federation For Second Time

Perhaps the finest game of soccer in the last five years was witnessed at the Club ground on Saturday when the Hong Kong Football Association defeated the Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation in the final leg of the Governor's Cup by goals to 3 after "an extra twenty minutes play:

The ground was packed to capacity long before the game had started, while all vantage poluts, particularly Morrison Hill, Was covered with people,

Apart from the shouts of encouragement from the thousands of Chinese spectators which helped to add zest and excitement to the game, the encounter itself was, packed full of thrills from the first' to final whistle, both team, excelling themselves with a few exceptions.

Lee Wai-Tong's Polished Display

The Chinese team played good football, but did not deserve to win.

The Association team did well to hold their own against the Chinese who were practically at full Olympic strength, with the exception of the goal-keeper who arrived in the Colony, from Shang hal yesterday.

The outstanding performances of the game were given by Lee Wal-tong, the Chinese leader of the forwards, whose "hat-trick" was the finest seen for some time. A. V. Gosano, as inside right, and L. G. Robertson, who deputising for Jackle Pote Hunt,

gave finest display to date at half, were instrumental in block- ading the Chinese left wing com- bination of Ip-Pak-wa and Tam Kong-pak.

of the two backs, his clever inter- ceptions and "constructive play marking him as still one of the best defenders in the Colony."

Morrison was inclined to stray too far up the field and was ofteri passed by Fung King-cheong.

Robertson was outstanding at right half and In Jones the opposite wing, had an excellent collegue.

on

Podmore played a very fine game at centre half but was pass- ed time and again by Fung King- cheong who proved too clever for him. Podmore's exhibition yes- histerday surpassed anything he has right yet done this season.

01 the forwards, Bertie Gosano and A. V. Gosano on the right wing was by far the best combination of the day, their per- fect understanding and speed providing the spectators with hun- dreds of thrills throughout the 'encounter."

Robertson played the "third back" tactic with great success and time and again was respon- sible for the saving of goals.
