Pope XI who had sent him to China. He thanked them in the name of the Pope for the good they were doing in China.

China was not a foreign country in the Catholic religion, for the Church was as much Chinese as it was Italian or English.

Mgr. Zanin said that he got the China that of same impression the missionary St. Francis Xavier had of this country when be visit- ed the Far East serveral hundred years ago, that was to say be felt! himself in the presence of one of the greatest peoples in the world, 's people who had many special qualities, a people who had grown up from a civilisation which dated back several centuries.

The endeavors of the Catholic Church in China was not so much because the Church wanted to add to the human civilisation of the country but because she wish- ed to bring the light of the Gos- pel. China had a special right to the action of the Catholic Church. He observed that there was a great deal of Christian charity going on in this part of the world for during his stay here he had visited the leper settlement nest Hongkong and was satisfied that the founding of Homes, Hospitals, Orphanages and Refuges were evidence of the charity for which, the Church stood.

THE HUSBANDS' HOUR Calling on a friend a short time ago I found her husband bustly wiring up a new radio. The room was strewn with wires, screws, tools, etc., and my friend was act ing as "mate." I could see she was getting "fed up," and in view of her "pained and patient ex- pression prepared to depart

Just then a messenger boy, exine. Taking in the situation and read- ing, my friend's face, he blurted out "Coo, missus, ain't yer glad yer didn't marry Marconi?"
