London, May 1.

A highly encouraging statement concerning the absorption of the unemployed into industry WELS made by Mr. Neville Chamberlain to-day. appropriately enough Labour Day.

MAERSE

There is a possibility that the Government may be able to au- thorise a cut in the contributions of employers and employed to the. Unemployment Insurance Fund.

Speaking in the House of Com-, mons. to-night the Chancellor of Exchequer said that" with unem- ployment moving rapidly down- wards as at present, there Wus every prospect that the unemploy- ment Insurance fund was going to have a substantial surplus after paying the debt charge and after the restoration of the economy cuts.

Under the provisions of the Un- employment Bill, the disposal of that surplus was not in the hands of the Government but of the Statutory Committee.

It was within the power of the Committee to recommend, if they though ft, that there should be a reduction of cohtribution.

clear It seemed to him pretty that there would be a surplus, which would allow them making some recommendation of that kind.- British Wireless.
