MESSRS. ROZA BROS, REPORT

The downward course of Suver prices continued yesterday. the drop being 1/4..for both deliver- jes. Ready to 18 13/16 and Forward to 183. America operated on both sides of the market but on balance absorbed sales made by China and Indian Interests, The market closed with a "steady outlook and very little interest being taken after the Axing of prices. In New York the price was lower at "423 and the tone advised as easy.

The opening rate for Sterling in New York was 5.141 and the clos- ing rate 5.131, a dull market be- ing reported.

Market

The tone was absolutely nominal at the opening due to disinclina- tion on the part of sellers to quote because of the very weak tone in Shanghai. A level was found sub- sequently resulting in a moderatë business. Local Chinese were not keen to buy.

Sterling 1/4 11/16 and 1/4" 13/18 were indicated as the selling and buying rates at the opening but selling quotations were withdrawn and there was ΠΟ reported trading except at 1/48 hhlch was done for cash. 1/4 9/18 for cash and second hall May. 1/4 19/32 June and also July and later 1/4 9/8 July. tone at 1 p.m. was sellers 17/32, buyers 1/4 9/16. U.S. Dollars

Business was done at 35% for cash, 35% June and 35 9/16 cash. closing with sellers at 35 and buyers at 354, but 35 7/16 looked

a possible business rate.

(Special to the "Hong Kong Dalls Press" (Copyright.}].

Berlin, April 30.

The sharemarket, opened frm but business was restricted owing to the public and speculators' disinclination to commit them" selves before the result of the transfer conference is known. The fact that the bourse will be closed on Tuesday owing to May 1 cele- bration has also acted os a drag on the market. Prices were irregulär but the price differences were small.

In such circumstances, the fall' in earnings cannot be deemed un- duly severe, though the difficulties have undoubtedly been countered to some extent by the concentra- The tion of productive activities begun 1/4 last year. Apart from Lever Bros. all the principal constituent com- panies have reduced their divi- dends. The A. O. F. Corp. has received the following report from their New York correspondents, E. A. Pierce & Co., As generally expected, sell... ing came into the market on a fairly substantial scale. There was no par; ticular news over the week-end, trading bearishness is on the increase and we see no point in attempting to anticipate a rally.

Wheat: Weather and market news and broader trade and domestic statistice were moderately bullish. Good rains are needed over a wide ares to allay appréhension.

Cotton; Prices advanced early in the day, induced by Senator Smith's proposal to prohibit the selling of pool cotton until August, 1935. Unless the price should reach the fifteen cent level. The market later reacted in sympathy with securities.

Silver: There was heavy liquidation, following the issuance of trans- ferable noticos, with offerings being absorbed by Interests with banking: connections.

A trading feature was switching of May to September and December.
