A TRIBUTE TO LORD IRWIN'S

VICEROYALTY...

The services of Lord Irwin (now Lord Halifax) to India were com- memorated at New Delhi yester day. when the Viceroy (Lord Willingdon) pressed a button and simultaneously unveiled a statue in white stone and a portrait of the ex-Viceroy.

In the absence of the Mahar- ajah of Bikaner, chairman of the Memorial Committee, the Nawab Ghuznavi, Bahadur Sir. A. A. member of the Executive Council of the Government of Bengal, ex- plained that the statue had been built at the suggestion of the King, by the London sculptor Mr. Reid Dick. R.A.. at a cost ΟΣ £3,500. The design for the pedestal W25 executed by Siz Edwin Lutyens, R.A. It stands on a spot adjoining the secretariat. The portrait cost £700, and was painted by Captain Oswald Birley, It shows Lord Irwin in council and hangs in the Council House library.
