After the Christmas" Holidays the market opened quietly, but was steady during the period under re- view which constituted only three business days. In consequence the volume of trading was rather res tricted and there is no special feature to report except that rates were however fairly well maintain- ed and a slightly firmer tone was prevalent in Banks, Lights and Hotels towards the close. It is anticipated that more activity with a more obvious trend will be dis- played in the market after the New Year Holidays. A Revenue increase of over £25,- 000,000, due to tariffs, is shown in the report of the Commissioners of Custom and Excise for the year ended March 31, 1933.
