Amongst Mme. D'Obrey's love- ly evening gowns, I feel there are a few I should mention. Ad extremely smart one, was in grey embroidered chiffon velvet trim- med with gold and another which I thought would suit the young miss was carried out in a very heavy white crepe with s wide red sash which crossed over the back and fell in a big bow. An unusual frock in wine crepe velvet finished of with silver tissue around the shoulders was. in my opinion, very striking and a very sweet dress was in powder blue crepe de chine and beads.

Some of their Van Raalte stockings are worthy of mention too Their texture seemed ex- traordinarily fine and they have them in all the latest shades.

WHITEAWAYS

Have you seen Whiteaways' Carnival toys? What an assort- ment they have of hats, squeak- They ers, balloons, masks etc. also have what I have'nt seen in any other shop-a lucky dip and from the size of the bucket, I should say, there were quite a number of good things inside. I saw so many useful little pre- sents there. They had a "cf- garette case for one-it held ten cigarettes. You All the case then put the lid on top, closing It with a map and as you open- ed the lid, one cigarette, would pop out at a time instead of having to shake it out. They also had some delightful photo Irames: I wandered up to the furnishing department and was shown some lovely down quilts in all colours and so moderate in price..

MAIZEES

Maizees have just received the smartest things in golf togs. They consist of a three piece suit skirt, jumper and short Jacket. The cutest things you ever set eyes on. They also had some riew evening gowns noticed- one of many which was particu- larly smart. It was made of green corded allk, cut ever" so plain but finished off with the loveliest tucks on the shoulders -quite one of the smartest dresses I have yet seen. A de-. lightful Xmas gift which would be bound to please most any lady was the "Rolar." It is made in the form of a little chromium roll (small enough to fit the tinest bag) with a little rod inside, onto which one at- tached a miniature rail of "Kleenex.” Such a handy thing and how it would save your handkerchiefs from getting soil- ed through wiping one's Hip- sticky Angers on them.

Saw a lovely selection of bed- -room suppers at Gordon's. They have just received them in all colours-made of kid and crepe de chine, also some of those" smart Raynes shoes which do not need much mention as everyone knows what a beaull- ful fit they afford. Amongst Mr. Drake's large assortment ' of etcetras, he has some wonderful gloves, the prices of which were really an eye-opener. One doesnt have to go far to find Just the thing they want. really be the heading of this write up as I learnt from Felix's that they are reducing their Bramble Suits and afternoon frocks. As a matter of fact, they will reduce any of their morning or evening dresses for you-just for this week-for I might mention, Christmas. their Bramble Sults only arrived last week. I was shewn some delightfully smart hats which ranged from $10.00 upwards and, although the price sounds cheap I can assure you they did not look it. While I was looking around, a new lot of evening dresses came in and before they had time to unpack them, two were snapped up.
