THE ATHLETIC MEETING
Its Significance Reviewed
·
Nanking, October 24-At yeater- day's weekly memorial service at National Government House, Mr. Yeh Chu-taang, member of the C.E.C., dwelt on the significance of the various contests and, ex- aminations conducted during the past week" or more: the National Athletic Meet, the 2nd Highef Civil Service Examinations, and the 2nd National Gymnastics Con- tests.
:
The physical and mental tests so conducted, Mr. Yeh pointed out, indicated the policy of the Government in añ-- couraging talent. Referring to some minor incidents that occur- red during the athletic, meet, he expressed gratincation. at the exfected amicable settlement through the efforts of the referees.
Incidents of this nature, he re- marked, "Occur frequently among nations as well as among indivi- duals. While toasts, may be ex- changed at international confer ences to-day, tomorrow may see the outbreak of hostilities between apparently friendly nations. How ever, there is a difference between nghting for the national honour, and sacrificing the interests of the majority in order to gratify the ambitions of a few.
