"JACK A-HOY"
A grim little section of a battle- ship stands in the corner of No 3 Studio.
It is a prison cell. There sits Jack Hulbert, making his first appearance at Shepherd's Bush in' what might appear to be uncom- fortable surroundings. But Jack Ponsonby, as he is known in this picture, lies back, on the hard bench with a seraphic smile on his face. What do prison bars mean 11 young man who gazes in rapture at the photograph of the girl he loves?

"Ian About Town," depicting behind-the-scenes life in Washing- ton, rich in romance and abounding. in thrills will be seen at the Orien- tal Theatre to-morrow and Thurs- day.
"Man About Town" relates a story of two men whose friendship was ironclad until both fell in love with the one woman. It is then that-ne of the men sets cut to destroy the other. Warner Baxter, always a local favourite, appears in the lending role, one that fits him perfectly. As the lover of the beau- tiful heroine, he is sincere and con- vincing and as the suave proprietor of a fashionable gambling house, he is at his smartest.
Karen Morley, little known on the screen until she gave her superb performance in "Arsene Lupin" with John and Lionel Barrymore, plays the leading feminine role and is superb as the young woman who averts an international scandal but gets herself into trouble. Conway Tearle, who recently returned to the screen after a vacation spent on the stage, appears as the disap- pointed lover, and gives a perform- ance that is pleasantly reminis- cent of his earlier days in pictures. Splendid support of the princi- pale is given by Lillian Bond, Alan Mowbray, Leni Stengel, Lawrence Grant and Halliwell Hobbes. The glamor of Washington is graphical- ly reflected through John Francis Dillon's direction.

Some very amusing scenes have been shot of Miss Courtneidge as Sally Bird who endeavours to get an audition with Mike Kelly (Sam Hardy) a night-club king, in the capact of a chorus girl, a conjurer, a juggler, an animal impersonator, & cigarette girl and a singer.
As a chorus girl she loses her chance, by quite accidentally kick- ing Mike Kelly while dancing at the very end of a troupe of girls, who are passed before Mr. Kelly , for inspection As a singer her chance is spoiled by a lump of wet plaster falling in her eye from overhead and her imitations of a seal do not seem to appeal to Mike Kelly,

When Jim returns, from Scotland ho learns, to his amazement that Graham is going to marry the girl with whom he was in love.. Never- theless he operates on Graham with complete success.
Just before Graham's wedding day, Joan shows him an old locket with a miniature of her mother, In a moment Graham realises who she is. He tells her that it was her mother with whom he was in love twenty years ago,
Pollard then tells Graham that Jim and Joan were desperately in love with each other, and that owing to trouble with Meadel, Jim, out of jealousy, had broken it off and gone away, and that Graham had obviously caught Joan on the rebound. In a moment Graham realises the whole situation. Joan is marrying him out of gratitudo, He goes into Joan's room and tells her that he is going to release her. Since he has seen the miniature he has realised that his love is really. buried in the past with Madelené, He returns once again, after twenty years, the old Convent Chapel, and strikes the majestic notes of "The Lost Chord,” and while he plays he seems to see again the figure of Madeleine, and as the last chords ring through the dim Chapel, he knows that he is content to wait until the time when they will be re-united in eternity.
