A raspberry sponge can be made with tinned or bottled' raspberries. three whites of eggs, three ounces of castor sugar, half an ounce of gelatine, a quarter of a pint of. water, the rind and julee of half a lemon, and a few drops of cochi- neal or carmine.
Rub the fruit through a sieve and mix with the sugar. Heat the gelatine, lemon rind and water gently until the gelatine is dis- solved, strain into the raspberry. puree and add the lemon juice. cochineal and very stiffly beaten white of egg.
Mix lightly, pour into a mould rinsed out with clear water and leave in a cold place till set. If there is not time to let it get quite set it can be plled up roughly on a glass dish.
Fill center with a tin of Beulah Strawberries, or Raspberries."

LONDON, Aug. 29. Ribbed effects in fur, as well as in all sorts of new fabrics will be the yogue for autumn. Tailors are making good use of corduroy, with its wide stripes, plain and shôt, Stripes, also appear in velvets and quaint, old-world failles, poplins, jersey and tweed.
