The Home football seasún opened last Saturday with number of surprises, and "during the week, more matches have been decided. From the results cabled through by Reuter, I have been able to make a few obser. vations on some of the teams and these are given below. Last year's champions, the Arsenal, were held to a draw by Birmingham in their opening match, but despite this they should be able to take full points when they visit Sheffield Wednesday who went down to Aston Villä (un their own ground) on Monday.

Leicester who. last year were savea ut the last minute from re- legation continue to show winning form and prove. that their wins. over the Villa and Sheffield U. were. no Rukes. With the advantage of Moying on their own ground against Manchester C., they should take full points.

West Brom although they los: their matches last Saturday they, ought to be able to beat Middlesbro' "this week end.

Birmingham by virtue of their druw with the Arsenal, last year's. champions, on the latter's ground last week, this team would doubt stort favourites this Saturday when they meet Everton on their own ground.

Fort Vale playing at home on: Tuesday gave a good account of themselves when they defeated Bury by 4-1 and this week-end they should find no difficulty in adding extra points in their match against Southampton at home.

Faithwall may surprise the public by doing the hat trick although they are meeting a stone wali " in Bury this week.

Senderland is going to play Stoke, one of the promoted teams. with the odds in favour of the

The Anglo-Irish Football Lea- gue Board, after a two hour meet- ing at Liverpool, decided that Mc- Millan, the nineteen-year-old Bel- fast centre-half, is to be a League player with Manchester United.

The dispute between Manchester United and Arsenal arose because McMillan signed a civil contract with Arsenal and a League form fót Manchester United.
