Associated Equipment & Fusion Rumour: British Iron & Steel Revival: Canada Gets £15,000,000 In A Minute!

(Special Air-Mall Service)

ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT

SHARES

London, August 9. Underground shareholders have been pleasantly surprised by the keenness of the demand for Asso- clated Equipment £1 Ordinaries.

The terms of the London. Pas- senger Transport scheme provide for the

of distribution the £1,426,800 of A.B.C. shares among holders of Underground £1 shares in the ratio of 13:1/3 A.E.C. per 100 Underground.

The necessary formalities for the conversion of the A.E.C. from a private concern into a public com- pany will take some little time. Meanwhile, however, the shares are being dealt in around 32s. 6d. subject to permission to deal be- Ing granted.' Normal dealings will $18 probably begin later this month.

British makers are now deriving the first benefits from the exhaus- tion of foreign stocks of semi- steel products Huge finished quantities of Belgian and French, billets were dumped in the British market in anticipation of the im- port duties. Now that these stocks are running down it is possible that prices may be put on a more satis factory footing..

One of the effects of the im- provement in the iron and steel trade is to be seen in the better Every trend of rallway tarifics. extra ton of steel produced means a much larger · movement of coal, The company coke and plg-iron. deriving the biggest proportionate gain is the London and North- Eastern, with its close interest in the prosperity of the north-east

SUCCESS

The £1,428,800 Of Ordinary shares are the sole capital of the Associated Equipment Company,|CANADA £15,000,000 LOAN there being no Debentures or Pre- ference shares. Dividends are paid free of tax and were 8 per cent. in each of the years 1928 to 1929, 10 per cent. for 1930 and 1931, and 7 per cent. In 1932.

At 32s. 6d. the return offered on the basis of last year's dividend is £4, 12s. per cent, tax free, equi-

valent to £6 6s gross. Dealers point out that Leylands, paying 10 per cent. less tax, standing at 38s.. offer a gross return of only £5 3s.to the amount of £50,000,000 or

per cent.

The strength of the AEC's position is in its close working con- nections with the L.G.O.C.. and it is understood that these will con- tinue in force under the new transport scheme. At the annual meet of the Underground this year Lord Ashfield stated that the pro- fits of the "A.E.C. for 1932 amounted to £127,482, and that, after paying a 7 per cent. tax free, dividend, the carry-forward was being rais- ed by £14,982 to £230,258. He added that "the present out- look is not favourable, and I am afraid that the results for the year 1933 will be less satisfactory than those of 1932.”

This does not mean that cheques

£60,000,000 were actually in the letter-box of the Bank of Montreal* this morning, for the amount pay- able on application was only £5 Percent. Nevertheless, the rush to subscribe was very notable.
