The past week has witnessed hectic movements in Dairy Farms. which only subsided in the fast day or two. During the height of the excitement, however, close on 20,000 shares must have changed, hands, at prices ranging between $28; and $291, both for cash Octo- ber, the bulk of these transactions by far being for the latter, month, Curiously enough. the forward rates were almost on a par with the cash rates. Such large tran- sactions in Dairy Farms within a few days .only are almost un- precedented. certainly in recent "years.
In other sections of the market, the demand for Telephones would appear to have petred out, the shares closing lower on the week. The weakness in Cements and Hotels was continuous throughout the period, both issues closing at the worst.

New Combine Against Matsukata Proposed
For the purpose of promoting their common interest, particularly in the face of keen competition with Boviet petroleum now import- ined by Mr. Matsukata, the six larg→ est oll suppliers, viz. the Nisseki, the Ogura, the Mitsul, the Mitsu- bishi, the Rising Sun and the Socony-Vacuum, have decided to recast their sales agreement for gasoline, states a Japan paper. Their scheme is being thoroughly supported by the Department of Commerce and Industry.
London demonstrated that it is the duty of the United States to seek reciprocity treaties with Mexico, South America and China. "They are our natural markets; we are theirs," Pittman said.

The news of the arrival of Mr. Matsukata's Soviet oil a few days ago greatly affected the retail market. and the six concerns have had to allow a reduction of four or five sen in their official quota- tion. The situation is pressing, and unless something is done immediately, the market will be thrown into complete disorder
now
Greatly concerned with the situation the six companies have come to the agreement that they should first formi a powerful sales cartel and then combat the Soviet oll marketed, by Mr. Matsukata. Their plan is to recast the old agreement along the lines as sug- gested by the Department of Com- merce and Industry. Their quota- tion is to be thoroughly controlled. and reduced to a level at which they can resist Mr. Matsukata's activity. The following ure the quotas suggested by the Commerce Department:
A Quota Basis. 1.The basic marketing quantity of 22,000,000 cases, as well as its quotes for the six concerns, should be retained.
2. The natural increase in the sumed at 2,000,000 to demand this year should, be as- 2,200,000
cases. Of this increase, half the quantity should be divided equal- ly between the six concerns, the balance being allocated according to the respective quotas."

Asia Lands, Limited, has received the following report from their New York correspondents, E. A. Pierce & Co. There was no particular change in the general situation today. The market continues to give evidence that an upward trend might continue easily with any amount of stimulation. A close watch should be given regarding clues and steps to expand credit. Wheat: Nervous. The early strength was on account of inflation talk attracting long liquidation, influenced by weakness in Minneapolis. Cotton: The Trade purchased. The advanci attracted increased offerings, both of long and hedge contracts. Reports state that weevils are increasing. Silver: There has been" foreign buying in fair volume and some September purchases against December sales. Banks and the Trade sold, with profit taking by speculative longs. Sules, totalled 231 contracts, about one-third consisting of switches.

They pointed out a few mindr itema which their head offces were. reluctant to confirm. Mr. Iwakiri strongly advised them to recon- sider these. He is understood to haye suggested the Government's intention to restrict imports, iu order to save the market from chaos, in the event of the Govern- ment terms not being accepted unconditionally.
The Department of Commerce and Industry apparently, believes that the foreign suppliers will eventually accept the above Gov-... ernment scheme in toto. As soon as the new agreement has been formally signed, it will invite. Mr. Matsukata and urge him to come to terms with the Conference. His attitude is being watched.
