Straight and narrow paths may be the best for most travel, but Roland Young will string along with the 'round-about road for some time to come. As a result of following such a trail, he is, Dow one of the screen's most popular actors.

Young's parents didn't raisa their boy to be an actor. They wanted him to be an architect, like he father. He consequently had to funk an architectural career before he could have a try at act- ing, the thing he really wanted to do.

While it took him little time to fail as an architect, he achieved one great benefit from the train- ing he received for 'that profce. sion. It developed a great talent for sketching which has since been one of his chief amusements He is the author of several published books of cartoons.

After his unlamented "Hop" as an architect, Young studied the drama for a year under Sir Her bert Tree. He got his first chance on the London stage with Arthur Bourchier in a play called "Find the Woman." Stock experience in the provinces followed. Then he scored a bit. in the London pre- sentation of "Improper Peter" and as a result won a New York engagement. His first play in Manhattan was "Hindle Wakes' He has since appeared in scores, including "Successful Calamity," "Rescuing Angel," "Scrambled Wives Buddies." "Pomeroy's Past," "fadame Pierre," "The Devil's Disciple," "Beggar Horseback," The Last of Mrs. Cheney" and "The Queen's Hus band"

His fair for subtle comedy hast found its best expression in such gaily sophisticated talking pictures as One Hour With You" and "This is the Night." In the "form

er film he appeared as the bus- band of Genevieve Tobin, who also plays his adventure-seeking bride in "Pleasure Cruise" the Fox Comedy that comes to the King's Theatre Sunday next..
