ADVANCE IN U.S. PRICES
SEVENTY PER CENT, DUE TO GENUINE RECOVERY
New Yoak, Aug. 7. Seventy per cent. of the advance in prices in the United States and also of the general advance in business has been a genuine re- covery from the depression, Mr. Roger Bakson, the famous econo- mist, said to-day in his report on the economie condition of the
United States.
He intimated that the remaining 30 per cent. of the adrance was due to speculation and enthusiasm of the part of those who expected an even great advance than had taken place.
However, the upward surge of prices and the increase in business activity especially during the month of July, was the greatest that ever took place in the United States in so short a period, Mr. Babson said
"We are now entering a period of irregular price movements which will probably be of short dura- tion," the economist said in des cribing the dullness that has mark- ed all markets in recent days.
The statement that 70 per cent.. of the advance was genuine was supported by the famous Babson, charts on which all statements com- ing from the Babson Statistical Or ganisation at Babson Park. Mass., are based. The instituta charts the movements of every market and even of the more important sections of those markets, and with these movements are recorded the influen- ces attending tho changes.
On the basis of these charts Mr. Babson predicted the crash of the stock market in 1929, a consider-") able time before the first decline set in. He said that within a certain period stock averages, would crash 50 points.
His report to-day contained no expressions of alarm over the pre- vailing summer dullness.-United Press.

Asia Lands, Limited, has received the following report from their New York correspondents, E. A. Pierce & Co. The market is colourless and apparently mildly swayed by dog-day rumours. We believe that a desire to wait the Code's outcome is deterring activity in taking posi tions. Whest: Balling by Peter intress in Winnipeg's weakness, depressed the Chicago market.
