(Special ®Air-Mall Service)

London, July 4-The meeting of Handley Page Ltd. was held yes terday at Winchester House, Old Broad-street, E.Q.;

Mr. S. R. Worley, F.C.A. (the chairman), who presided, said that the company's manufacturing operations during the year had been restricted, and it was not un- til the autumn that one of the company's new types was selected for service use in the RAF. to replace one of their older types. That contract was now proceeding satisfactorily.

The use of the slotted wing continued to expand all over the world, and he was not putting it too high to claim that it had proved itself one of the greatest safety devices ever invented.

Last year he had referred to the question of disarmament, remark- ing that he did not see how it could be possible for this country to reduce its Air Force, consider ing its strength relative to other countries.

No real progress had been made with the problem, but the uncertainty had delayed the placing of orders. Taking into a count the position of the company, the directors proposed to pay a dividend of 10 per cent, to the. Preference shareholders.

Mr. F. Handley Page, C.B.E. (managing director), in seconding the motion, said that the com- pany's forty-senters on Imperial Airways routes had fully justified all hopes. It seemed without ques- tion that future design develop mienta in aviation must proceed along the lines of wings with van- able lift,

A great deal of nonsense had been talked with regard to" "Dan- ger from the air." "It was essen- tial they should not let panic, fears caused by wild statements result in panic measures which would seriously affect the safety and prosperity of the British Empire in time of emergency. In a great war a trained force with military objectives would not waste, its energics on attacking civilian populations.
