6,065 MILES IN FORTY-SEVEN AND A HALF HOURS
Chicago, July 16. All machines of the Italian Air Armada landed by 12.16 a.m. British Summer Time, having completed the fight from Montreal in under eight hours.
From a cloudless sky the sun glinted on their wings, and a light breeze ruffled the surface of the lake as the ma chines alighted in groups of three.
Gen. Balbo scrambled out first and raised his arm in a Fascist salute, whereupon the crowds, estimated to num- ber a million and which lined the water's edge cheered wildly.
The machines were accompanied from the United States frontier by forty-two American machines, while General Rooso, the Italian Ambassador to Washington, "was a passenger in Gen. Bulbo's machine from Montreal.
