Three Singles Matches Decided
After having been delayed for several days on account of the in- clement weather, further progress was made in the Lawn Bowls Singles Championship yesterday when three matches were decided. the U. M. Omar, who is one of the favourites and a former champion, the Orbagenkower green and won at his club-mate, D. Rumjahn, on comfortably by 21-14,
At a meeting held Y.M.C.A. last evening, a local Hockey Aaasciation was and it was also decided that the formed Association should be affiliated to the Hockey Association in England. One of the result of such affilia tion will be that the Clubs who join the local association will be forbidden by the rules to play for any trophy whatsoever.
The meeting was presided over by Mr. A. A. Dand representing the Hongkong Hockey Club, while others present were fr. D. E. de Sousa University), R. H. Wong (St. Andrew's)" Surjan Singh (Radio), Jehan Dad (KIT.C.), D. McLellan (V.M.C.A.), A. M. Xavier (Recreio) and F. A. Kemp (Seere. tary).
Minutes of the previous meeting were read, after which the Chair man said that the Army and Navy had indicated that they would be- Lome members of the local associa tion provided it was affiliated with the Hockey Association of England. The Chairman then read a letter from the Central British Associa- tion indicating the latter's willing- ness to join the Association when it was formed.
The Chairman, before taking the -opinion of the meeting said he wanted to make it clear that the formation of an association would mean that trophies would be out of the question. He asked if any person present would rather om. pete for trophies.
The representatives of the Kow- Ion Indian Tennis Club and of the Radio Sports Club indicated that they would rather there were tro- phies of some kind. It was point- ed out that the Mamak Hockey Shield competition which took the form of a hockey league in past 'years drew very
good entries. That was probably an indication that trophies were quite popular.
