YESTERDAY'S OFFICIAL

QUOTATIONS

The first two days of the past weeks were mainly occupied with the adjustment of accounts, which took place on Tuesday the 27th inst. Consequently, there was very little fresh business until after the final adjustment.

Since then, however, the list generally has displayed an upward tendency, and although the volume of trading in this period cannot be said to have been large, rates close at their best.

Earnings for the three months ended March 31, 1933, were equal to 80.99 a share, a decline of 20 per cent. from those of the comparable 1032 period. Returns for the re- mainder of the year, however, should make Д more favourable comparison. Bankruptcy of the Liggett stores and the improved position of United Drug should eliminate substantial parent tom- pany losses, and full year profits of Drug. UNITED FRUIT CO, The strictly long term prospects of the company. are definitely favourable, and some improvement may be registered may be register- ed in the near future. However, while the possibility of mainten ance of the present #2 dividend has been eribaabed, earnings recovery from the low levels recently re- corded probably will be slow. At current prices this stock generously discounts earnings prospects some time ahead. Asia Lands, Limited, has received the following report from their New York correspondenta, E A. Pierce & Co. The wide factuation in Steri- ing and the conflicting reports from the Economic Conference have undoubtedly made traders more cautious, though it is difficult to ex plain what they fear in the way of the international situation. The sharp break in Wheat also injected a note of caution and opinions on the
