EPIC BY ENGLISH CAST

COMING TO THE KING'S ·

THEATRE

Hollywood has made Britain's greatest film.

"Not only has it made our first truly national film, but also found our first real woman star. Diana' Wynyard, a recruit from the Lot- don stage, making her screen debut, achieves a triumph by her exquisite acting as the gracious Jane Mar- ryot

This twenty-six-year-old Syden- ham-born girl gives a superb per· · formance; yet she was turned down by British film companies 'sa being unsuitable for film work!

Cavalcade is undoubtedly the finest screen Achievement since talkies were introduced, and it was made in America by Frank Lloyd who was educated at an L.C.C. school at Shepherd's Bush.

In order to secure the right at- mosphere for Noel Coward's stir ring pageant of the last thirty years of British history, an entirely British cast was shipped to Holly wood.

The stary 'epens in England at the time of the Boer War in 3699, and shows the march of the events up to the conclusion of the Great War.

VIVID CONTRAST

We see the departure of the C.I.V.'s for South Africa, a won derful piece of spectacular work.

Then comes" a period of peace with a vivid picture of a London reception, at one of those private palaces of the Edwardian era.

Times move on to 1914, the war. the worry in the home and the anguish of watching the troop trains departing from a most clever- ly, reconstructed London terminus.

We see the crowded leave trains returning, a Zeppelin raid over London, and young officers trying to forget the war at various restau- Fuata and theatres,

In vivid contrast we see thousands of troops going up to the trenches, ghoebly figures fading away as battle claims its toll,

The acting is magnificent through out. Clive Brook gives a finely restrained and natural performance as the husband, and Herbert Mun- din raises a low comedy rôle to the leve! of first-class character acting.

“Cavalcade" embodies the soul of England as no other film has yet done, a truly amazing feat consider ing that it was made 6,000 miles away. There is not a false note in this inspired parade, and Holly wood must be thanked for making the grandest and most moving pie ture of our time.
