ON SATURDAY

ABSENCE OF BIG DIVIDEND FEATURE OF SECOND EXTRA

RACE MEETING

(BY " MORNING DEW '')

Two old favourites in Royal Flush and Wonderful Stag caught the judge's eye on Saturday at the Second Extra Meeting of the Hong Kong Jockey Club. The former won the "D" Class race over six furlongs while the latter won the "O" Class race over a mile and a quarter and in so doing accounted for several well- fancied candidates.

There was a distinct absence of big dividends as the public has apparently learned by now that anything with four lega has a chance to win a race and was therefore backing evenly. Even the surprise win of Lacy Glitters over City of Melbourne and Evening Star did not result in a bigger dividend than $37, which imeldant- ally was the highest of the day.

:༥།

Diana Bay won her race fairly easily, but Woodland Stag went under to Night Star for the second time this season.

CHAMPAGNE BAY BEATEN IN FIRST

RACE

All the

predicted a experts win for Champagne Bay in the epening race of the day and he was roaring favourite in the pari-mutuel, but the pony could de no better than get second place. Daylight Eve running with a con- ession of 13 pounds from the favourite, won the event by two lengths and Mrs. Pearce's Wey- tridge secured place just noring cut the lightly weighted Brechin who was a good fourth.

Wonderful Stag

This old stalwart occasionally pops a surprise, but on Saturday his surprise win did not result in Flying Boy's favourite position any big dividend, backers only get- in the batting in the second race ting 1-1 on him in a field of 17 was certainly not due to past per-The biggest disappointment in this race was Bistre who, carrying the formances but to the fact, prob- nhly, that he was the mount of the bulk of the betting, failed to get a champion jockey.

was place. Wonderful Stag put in Dever in the picture and when next great burst of speed in the run Le goes to the post will probably home to win from Dee and Alex- be entirely neglected, which is as it should be, as the pony is not worth hacking at all unless at very long odds.

The pony

Mr. Pan on Hey Tor had an "armchair ride" here and won by Lwo lengths from Jack O'Lantern with Charming Face third. The finishing order in this rate was exactly as predicted in Saturday's Daily Press.

Diana Bay

Diana Bay may be said to have "walk over in the "A" Class race ever a mile and a quarter as be led from start to finish and, coming home in a canter, won by four lengths,

Bag and Baggage, ridden by Mr. Heard was a good second and of his Hetman, making full use lighter weight took third place. Sadko could not got up in the earlier stage of the race and when Needa woke him in the head before the home straight he was too far behind to be able to do much damage. He finished fourth.
