THE SUBSCRIPTION GRIFFINS OF 1933
The subscription grilling of this season will be out to prove, on Saturday and all during the Annual Meeting that they are as good us those which raced here last year, They will have a hard job although some owners do not think ao as I notice quite a few subscrip} tion griffins of this year entered for The Garrison Cup and The Royal Navy Cup. If they can beat Racing Hey Tor might turn out to be a Boy & Company there will be some peets are that they won't do any thing of the kind.
For the moment there are very few Black Velvet responded very all. well when taken out by Mr. D. S. Li last week and in all probability D. S.. U will be riding this sub during the meeting. He ought to do very well.

1933.
In 1008, our racing expert" writing on the prospects of the Annual Race Meeting stated:- Now that we are within a week of the Annual Race Mooting, in- terest in the training of the ponies grows keener and the early morning gallops attract an' increasing num- ber of spectators. Among the 111 ponies entered for the races a very fair percentage have turned out well and next week's meeting pro- mises to be an exceptionally in teresting one. On the training it is difficult yet to spot the winners," For the Derby, the favourite seems to be Mr. F. B. Marshall's Palm Tree. In the re- cent oarly morning gallops but few of the ponics have been timed over the full Derby course (1 miles). Mr. Marshall's Nutmeg Tree his done it in 3.39 4/5, and Sofenno Rose in 3.37. The winner's time at the Inst meeting was 3:16, but the course recently has been rather heavy. Most of the ponies have heen timed over the mile and quarter, and among the Derby Ponies the best time stands to the oredit of Jubilee Rose, 9.50; Cam- phor Tree has done it in 2,513. STABLE PROSPECTS FOR THE MEETING
Continued from puige 1).
After Racing Boy, many would plump on Bistre as the next best pony. But is it? What about Philanderer after his long rest! What about Valley Hall with his 9.04 in Maco? What about Ban- jolina with his long string of victorica? When these ponies, ment without Racing Boy there is sure to be a very good tree. Champagne Bay.
The only pony in which Mr. Reidy is interested at the Annual Meeting is Champagne Bay which he shares with Mr. Bunbar Champagne Bay looks to be as though he will win- one race at least The Chater Cup. He will be running at 185 pounds against Workable Stag. (171 lbs.). Indians (171 lbs.), Navy Hall (165 lbs.), Daylight Eve (162 lbs.) and Gold Key (162 lbs.). The last named would be a very good bet but for the fact that his training performances, recently have been very good. Valorous is in this race too at 162 pounds and one might do worse than putting one's support on bim,

Gold Bridge is not bad and for long races might do very well.
Binck Bock and Partnership are two ponies which might do very well if properly ridien, so look out for them at the coming inceting. Either of them may pop a surprise.
The Wongneichong Stakes will bo a good race to watch this year and if Swale goes out in that race, he ought to do well. The Goat is an- other pony which might do well over half a mile,, Philterer, Ta Peastie and Poverty Bay are also likely to go out, in the half mile scramble. LEADING OWNERS
[It is interesting to note that the event in 1008 was won by Kirkwood (Mr. Johnstone) with Palm Tree and Mohawk Chief finishing second and third.]
LIBERTY BAY WINS
HOW THE DERBY WAS.
RUN LAST YEAR
RECORD TIME. REGISTERED [BY MORNING DEW,"]
There never was a bigger certainty in local racing than Liberty Bay in yesterday's Derby, Hill was full of confidence and the race proved that had it been necessary to bring the time down to the vicinity of 3 minutes in order to win, Liberty Bay would have done so.
Liberty Bay carried 3,477 winning tickets out of a total of roughly 4,500. From the start it was obvious that Liberty Bay was out to make the pace and take no chance, with the field.
Blue Star led, but Hill quickly sent up Liberty Bay and for the first five furlongs there was not much change of position, ex- cepting that Tantine went up in the straight the first time, to run with the leaders. Blue Star and Liberty Bay stayed together until the six furlongs post, when Hill again set out to take the lead. As soon as he pushed Liborty Bay out, Li on Bluc Star was after him and again joined him. The two stayed together until the Rock was reached.
Meanwhile Princess Hall had been making up ground, but Wild Life appeared to be difficult to manage, Mr. Tung apparently finding it difficult to get the pony to respond. Dallae meanwhile got into second position and entered the straight about three lengths behind Liberty Bay. Wild Life too had improved his position and was fourth enter. ing the straight. Thereafter he nicked up ground rapidly and at the distance, post had drawn level with Prince Hall and a hundred yards from home made a great effort to pick up Liberty Bay which had by now a lead of several lengtha and had dropped into a canter.
Tung tried all he knew, but it was no use as Liberty Bay was too good Wild Life finished second about two lengths behind the winner, after making one of the finest efforts during the present meeting to try and wreat the honours from on obviously better, pony. Princess Hall finished third and the others were left well behind.
The time was a record ons for a Derby winner, though it was not a course record for the mile and half. The various quarters were' covered as follows:-32.3, 1.04.4, 1.38, 2.00.9, 2.30.1, 3.04.4.
