OBITUARY
CAPTAIN T. G. PURVIS
Captain T. G. Purvis, the well- known waring artist, who has been on the China Coast for the past 16 years, died at the Kowloon Hoe pita at 3.30 a.m. yesterday, froma cerebral hemorrage, and heart failure, at the age of 72...
Captain Purvis sarved his ap prenticeship in the old clipper days, and had bean master of some of the fuest sailing ships afloat.
He saw servies during the Great War in different zones, and retired from the sea "about five years ago, since when he has devoted his whole time to the painting of marine
studies.
His work has been exhibited, among other places, in the Royal Art Gallery, and he did a good deal of work for the Dollar Steam ship Company by whom one of the late Captainsjunk studies WELE adopted as a ships postcard.
His work is well known all along the Count, and by thousands of tourista,
His loss will be keenly felt both locally, and by his numerous friends,
the world over.

The late Captain was an old Freemason.
The funeral took place yesterday afternoon and there were a num. ber of personal friends at the graveside. The remains were in ferred at the Protestant Cemetery and the funeral service was con- ducted by the Rev. E. L. Allen.
