market has been dull.

(Special Air-Mail Service)

LONDON, Nov. 8.

In the course of a lecture to the Incorporated Secretaries' Associa. tion on October 31. Mr. W. F. Today Spalding referred to the catas trophic fall in silver, and said that it had a weakened the purchasing power of Asia that it was probably one of the main causes of the world depression.

Price

One reason for the depreciation was the abandonment, wholly or partially, of silver for coinage by European nations and as a stand- ard of valse by some of the East tern countries In view of the pecu- liar circumstances of its produc- tion, permaneal stabilisation of the price of silver, he thought, hardly ane within the region of practical politics. The only hope for the future, then, was for consumption
