After a aix·lour conference at Manchester to-day between the ro presentatives of the cotton-apinning employers and operatives in regard to the question of a reduction of wages, the negotiations broke down:
The employers offered to reduce their demands for a wage reduc- tion and said they would accept a eut of 13.3 per cent, off the stand- ard rates, just or has been done on the manufacturing side of the industry,
The operatives refused the offer and declined to advance their con-

The employers have given notice. of a reduction of wages which will expire on October 18. The opera tives declare that they will resist.

Messrs. E. A. Pierce and Co. Report,
The market again failed to de- monstrate its ability to emerge from! the narrow trading area. Interest re- mains very small and the disappoint-. ing movement of stocks to-day. after yesterday's strength, will probably diminish active interest and keep traders on the side lines until some definite clue develops.
