INDIA STILL LEADS IN COTTON PURCHASES.

London, Sept. 2-India is still Great Britain's best customer for cotton goods, according to a state. ment just made officially in the Board of Trade Journal. But al- though Lancashire still found In- 30 dia to be her principal market in 19* 1931, the percentage of exports of cotton piece goods to her has fallen very greatly since pre-war days.

In 1913, the Journal states, 43 per cent of Britain's piece goods ware sent to India but last year this figure had dropped to 20 per cent,, while the percentage of unbleached piece goods sold in India in 1913 was 63, whereas in 1031 it had drop- pod to only 18 per cent.

The principal British delegate, Mr. Joseph Addison, the British Minister at Prague, said that Bri-; tain had not come to the conference with her mind already made up, but she was of opinion that the only means of attaining their end was a gradual abolition of all economic barriers.

The exchange system at present in operation was, he said, strangl- ing the economic life of the world. He agreed with the German de legate that the improvement of in- ternational exchanges would lead to an automatic improvement in the financial situation.

Dr. C. B. Regarding the resentment which his preferment and promotion call ed in the minds of other em ployees, they were taking stops to avert that difficulty, and in return bad obtained the benefit of his greater broadth of outlook, his adaptability and initiative, and his mental vigour and imagination.
