TELL ENGLAND.

EPIC PICTURE AT THE QUEEN'S.

“Tell 'Englanil”. now showing at the Queen's Theatre is a graphically portrayed British 'ver- sion of the hostilities which took: place at Gallipoli during the World War. The opening scene is in rural. England, and, here we are intro- duced to the two loading players, Carl Harbord, na Edgar, Doc, and Tony Bruce, as Rupert Ray. Wó trace them through their school- days to August, 1014, when they enlist for service. Their ultimata arrival at Gallipoli, and the un- erving experiences through which they pass form the vital interest of the picture

The battles and bombardments de- pioted in this phase are realistically and grippingly carried out, while the reactions of the two boys to this new environment provides them both with the opportunity of play: ing a difficult part really well. The number of supporting characters, however, is rather small. We see just a little too much of Ray nud Doo together-usually under drama- tie circumstances. A little trench- humor is provided in the earlier stages by the respective batmen and one or two orderlica,

The big moment of the whole picture occurs when the two boys lend their men over the top in an attack on a big gun placement. This part is exceptionally well treated, and the roaring of cannon, the spattering of machine-gun fire, and the smoke und dust from' ex- ploding shrapnel together with the eries of men going to their deaths, all combine to make this aceno most realistic.

The climax is provided when, after accomplishing the object of the attack. Doe ia shot down, and dies in hospital in the company of his pal. After the last British soldier has left the Peninsula át the conclusion of the war, a Ger- man officer, strolling along the old British lines, comes upon a amsil. group of graves. Over Doa's grave he roads the inscription Tell England he who pass this monu- ment-Wa died for her and here we rest content."
