MR. BOTELHO PASSES OUT OF NOVICES CLASS:

PAYS DIVIDEND OF $224 IN LAST RACE.

MERMAID WINS THE RACE FOR AUSTRALIANS.

[BY MORNING DEW."]

The weather, although not very promising in the morning. held off sufficiently long on Saturday afternoon to enable the Hong Kong Jockey Club's eighth Extra Raco Meeting to be, held und those who went to Happy Valley were treated to some goed sport

Saturday's meeting brings the first half year's racing to a slone and it was appropriate that some very big dividend should have been handed out to successful punters,

From more than one point of view the meeting was a memor- able one. Hencuis were very evenly divided and there was more than the usund number of close finishes.

The course was heavy and in places there were patches of water and fast times were out of the question, but the surprise of the meeting was that some reputed mudlarks failed to come off at all.'

WORKABLE STAG PAYS $91.90.

Azother novice, Mr. A. A. R. Botelho, passed out of the novices standard on Saturday by winning his tenth vace during the afternoon. Mr. Botelho won on Army Hall and in the last race of the meeting brought home City of Shanghai to pay the biggest dividend of the meeting. City of Shanghai was not fancied as all and those who have followed form closely absolutely left him out of enteulation in the pari with the result that when he finished half a length in front of The Crook, his supporters received the handsome sum of $221.60 each.
