Driven by heavy sean on to the Tan Rocks near Turnabout Island to the Bouth of Foochow, the Japan- eso freighter Ryujin Maru, with 27 members of the crew, now, lies in a dangerous position but thanks to the efforts of H. M. S. Hermes, the aircraft carrier, eight men hava already been taken off while the captain and the remaining mem bera of the crow are still on board. It is not known, when the mishav coourred as the vessel had not been (in direct communication with Hong Kong but she was on her way to Japan with a cargo of man- ganese ore when her distress signals were picked up by the Hermes and tho B. & S., vessel, Shantung at about 8,30. p.m. on Tuesday. The latter was on her way to Shanghai while the Hermes, was on her way from the northern part and no sooner, she picked up the S.O.S. signal than who made straight for the scene, arriving there shortly before 11 p.m. When the Hermes arrived at the wreck, she found the Shanturg alrendy Manding by but the heavy send randored rescue work impossible' and the B ̧· &. §. vessel was, asked to go on her way. Meanwhile the Hermes anchored i for the night about seven miles from Turnabout Island And a most- ngo sent to the Commodoré Hong Kong was to the effect that efforts would be made at daylight to save the crew.
