M. S. Hermes, the aircraft carrier, eight men hava already been taken off while the captain and the remaining mem bera of the crow are still on board. It is not known, when the mishav coourred as the vessel had not been (in direct communication with Hong Kong but she was on her way to Japan with a cargo of man- ganese ore when her distress signals were picked up by the Hermes and tho B. & S., vessel, Shantung at about 8,30. p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile the Hermes anchored i for the night about seven miles from Turnabout Island And a most- ngo sent to the Commodoré Hong Kong was to the effect that efforts would be made at daylight to save the crew.
