PROPAGANDA IN SWATOW.
· NEWSPAPERS AND THE
·YM.C.A. VERY BUSY.
(From Our Own Correspondent)
Swatów, October 2007
The locat press, is jubilant over the decision of the League of Nations that the Japanese troops in Manchuria must withdraw to the ailway zone by November 16. However, the Japanese do not seem to believe the iden to be practicable, despite the assurance of the Longue of Nations that the necessary protection of Japanese lives and proports can be relied apon. The newspapers further more state that there is nothing to, prevent Japan from ignoring the decision of the League and from retiring from 'it. The concensus of press opinion is that, even if the troops should bo, withdrawn now China will gain nothing when the Day of Judgment comes...that is, when direct negotiations take place between the two countries. On the whole the people are apprehensive lest there should be another 21 demands."
There is a certain amount of feeling against America beenuse the American observer accomplish- ed nothing materially for China at the Council of the League of Nations. The Chinese dream of armed intervention on the part of America against Japan is shattered once for all.
