KILREA IN THRILLING FINISH.

AUSTRALIAN RACE RUN IN FAST TIME: FAVOURITE WINS RIGHT ON THE POST

VALOROUS WINS THE FIFTH AGGREGATE STAKES.

[BY MORNING DEW."]

The public judged, form to a niooty, when racing for the second half of the 1931, season was rosumed at Happy Valley on Batur- day. As predictack, favourites had things pretty much their own way and the biggest outsider scarcely paid off. -

The Aggregate Stakes fell to Valorous, a much-improved pony, which finished two lengths ahead of Royal Flush with the much- fancied Zorhan third. The last named did not look very it when he started for the race and could not, as he usually did, take the. lend at any stage of the race.

The Novice's race provided a thrilling finish, Mr. Corbett on Armony and Mr. Botelho on Tango finishing so close together that the judge's awarded a popular, dead-heat verdict

The Australian race fell to Kilren with St. Moritz a short head behind. Wattle ridden by Mr. Stanton, after running promising ly all the way, was found wanting for a big effort in the straight.

There was a very large attende ance in both the members and public enclosure and a pleasing selection of music rendered by the band of the Argy!! and Sutherland Highlandera lent much to the success of the afternoon.

Favourite Wins First Race.

The public made a favourite of Cloudy Eye (Mr. Pan) in the open- ing race with Edenbridge (Mr, Laing) next"in demand Eve did not have too good a start Clouds but Mr Pan lay comfortably within striking distance of the leaders until the straight was reach- ed, when he took his mount out on the outside to pass Mongolian Stag, and Wise Stag, which had been leading most of the way.

where a sterling last-quarter of about 98 seconds by Yalorous brought victory to that peay.

Pan's Third Victory:

Mr. Pa's third victory of the day on Agate, was the result of beautiful piece of horsemanship. Mr. Botelho on Thunderous "Stag carried a very heavy number of tickets, and although the pony was conveniently placed all the way and entered the straight full of running, Mr. Pan, on Agate managed to draw level at the distance, post and by dint of hard riding got the better of Mr. Botelho's mount which had to be content with Silver Key who was third, finishing second place. A length behind was very strongly.
