COMPANIONS OF THE CONQUEROR.

THE CELEBRATIONS IN NORMANDY.

MANY DESCENDANTS TO ATTEND.

June 16-Nearly 150 English descendants of the Companions of William the Conqueror will leave Landon to-morrow to take part in the William the Conquerar cele brations which are being held in Normandy.

The party will include Lord Eustace Perey, Sir Alfred and Lady Bower, Florence Lady Proc tor Beauchamp, and the Mayor und Mayes of Hastings. About 350 Americans, all claiming thescent from the Companions of William, are also on the way, and other descendants are coming from vari ous party of France.

All the claims have been enreful. ly examined by Professor Macary, of the College of Falaise, who has had access to many documents of the peried of the Norman Conquest, and general surprise has been ex- pressed at the large number of American families English and which have boon able to prove their descut sutisfactorily.

Townroe, of the United Associations of Grent Bri tain and France, who has organis ed the English party, told London Morning Post representa. visit tive that the proposed had created considerable interest both in France and elsewhere, und that everyono was agreeably sur- prised at the numbers of those who had expressed their intention of attending the celebration...

"The French Committee has made elaborate plans for entertaining the party," he said, and a num- bor of attractions have been ar- ranged, including an Eleventh ~Contary fele n the grounds of the Castle of Falaise. William the Conqueror's birthplace, and a visit to the Ducs d'Harcourt. ys rain. The party will attend a service. in the Cathedral at Falaise, in which the Bishop of Bayour will take part. Thore will also be any official welcome and a banquet, after which the tablet commemorat- ing the Companions ct William the Conqueror will be unveiled."
