'There are now twenty refuse lorries in use, fourteen in Hong Kong and six in Kowloon. In ad- dition a one-ton Ford truck wat put into use at Kenedy Town Slaughter House to replace the buffalo cart. or 205.75 tons per day).
The all in cost for Hong Kong was $170,000 or $2.89 a ton.
For Kowloon 880,000 or $2.49 A ton.
In addition some 5,330 tons of 're- fuse was collected in rural districts (including Shaukiwan), and burnt in incinerators.
(b..)
Refuse Removal -- Some 103,500 tons (449 tons a day) was received at the depots. The dif ference between this figure and the figure stated above is due to a large quantity of refuse taken to the depots by private firms and in- dividuals. Practiently all the re- fuse from the City of Victoria was taken to sen by barges and dumped. All the Kowloon refuse, some 46,374 tous, was dumped at Cheung Sha Wan Reclamation.
The contractors for the removal of nightsoil from Victoria and the Kowloon Peninsula, Shaukiwan, Aberdeen, Pokfulam and Aplichau, and Stanley, and Taitam, respectivo- ly, earried out their work satis factorily.

of acting she can always make a good living, as a fashion ercator. For the youthful Metro-Goldwyn- Mayer star is as well-known for her original style ideas as for her clever work in the dramatic field.
Among her other innovations, Miss Crawford was first to...wear the off-face hats. The inspiration came while she was on a picture set. After waiting patiently for the comernman to adjust the lights so that the shadow from her hat brim wouldn't cover her eyes, she became impatient and pushed her brim. back against the crown, revealing ber face directly to the light, much to the cameraman's, delight..
Following release of the picture. off-face hats became ultra-smart and universally popular!
Miss Crawford's latest Fashion novelties will be seen in "Paid." her new dramatio vehicle opening ou Sunday at the Queen's Theatre.
