Bum, and the Benedictines are do- ing their utmost, to raise the rest. Not only has the Sacro Spéco a claim to fame through its connec tion with history, legend, art, and culture, but it is also a religious centre and place of pilgrimage" of great natural beauty and of unique interost. Only a footpath leads to it up the steep gorge of the torrent- river Anie, where twelve little monasterios once sheltered twelvo disciples of the young Benedict. On the opposite side can be seen to this day the remains of a brick villa built by Nero where he used to fish with a golden net four huu- dred years before the coming of the Benedictines.
All those monasteries have disap Teared; only the Holy Cave of the Saint remains, which in reached higher up the gorgo through a dark wood of gnarked and twisted iloxes belonging to the time of Benedict. A monastery, an upper (and lower church, a labyrinth of chapels supported on arches against the cliff, cluster round it, forming altogether what is known as the Sacro Spoco.

QUEEN'S THEATRE.
"REMOTE CONTROL.
"Remote Control," -starring William Haines at the Queen's Theatre, undoubtedly has the most unusual plot yet seen on to talk ing serce. Haines is cast as the manager of a defunct radio broad- casting station who unknowingly aids in the.netivities of a group of hank robbers whose lender. directs the holdups through elever mani pulation of his so-called clairvoyant readings over the radio.
Ch-
How Haines finally discovers the mysterious plot and exposes the gangstore is pictured in an grossing and fast moving narrative
Although primarily a straight drama, Edward Sedgwick, tho director, has left plenty of room for Haines inimitable brand of humour, a high spot being the se quence in which the comedian gives A one-man radio, performanco in which he imitatea prominent "other" personages. Oilars who add immesurably to the entertain ment of this Metro-Goldwyn- Mayer picture include Mary Doran ne the heroine, Charles King, John Miljan and Polly Moran.
"STRICTLY UNCONVEN,
TIONAL."
Ernest Torrence is proving him, self more of a character player with oach succeeding picture, never appearing twice in the same type of role. In "The Bridge of San Luis Rey," he was scop 'as a Spanish dance master, skipping around in ludicrous ballot steps; in "Speedway," he was an auto racor: in "Untamed," ho made use of an inherited Scotch brogue, and the report now comes that in "Strictly Unconventional." Metro- Goldwyn Mayer's alltalking. adaptation of W. Somerset Maug- hum's noted stage play. The Cir- cle," which will open on Thursday At the Queen's Theatre, the versatile actor will have the role on a mona- cled English Lord.
The part is that of Lord Por- tebus, made Famous on the stage by the Inte John Drew. The role of the English peer who runs away with another man's wife is enid to the entirely different from anything Torrence has over essayed before, the part being one of several satiri cal characterizations in Maugham's
WORLDA ody of marriage and morals.
