HOME FOOTBALL RESULTS.

CELTIC AND MOTHERWELL PLAY TO `A' DRAW IN SCOTTISH CUP FINAL.

ARSENAL NEED TWO POINTS TO SECURE THE LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP,

PROMOTION PROBLEMS.

With the completion of a full programme of matches in the English League on Saturday, the majority of the teams are left. with only three games to close the season. The Arsenal were fortunate in taking the points from Grimshy by the only goal of the match, as a reverse would have given the Villa a chance to strike a last minute blow for the championship. Leading by five points over the Villa, the Arsenal need only two points, to make them champions, or the former's defeat in any one of the three remaining games would settle the issue, Manchester United aro doomed for relegation; Birmingham and Leeds United, who are in the danger zone, both lost the points, but the latter appears to be the other candidate to go down to the Second Division.

While Everton have qualified for promotion to the First Division, Tottenham succeeded in gaining only one point, and West Bromwich, although they were defeated, are still left with a chance to accompany Everton; Reading and Plymouth both drow in their matches, and it is still doubtful which of them will drop aut together with Cardiff City.

In the Third Division matches, Luton beat Thames by eight goals. Notts County are sure of promotion together with either Lincoln or Tranmere. The last-named had an unexpected defent at the hands of Doncaster Rovers.

A drawn game resulted in the Scottish Cup Final between Celtic and Motherwell. So far as the League is concerned, the Rangers are now ahead of Motherwell by two points with each having threo games in hand.
